City of Mountain House, California

Challenge

Working for SWA Group, Matthew was a key member of a 66-acre linear park and creek restoration/recreation project. Designed for the new community of Mountain House the project had four key community and ecological goals: flood control, stormwater infiltration, habitat restoration and recreation. SWA’s use of fluvial geomorphologic principles for the form of the creek enabled fulfillment of the goals put forth by the community as the bends and meanders of the creek allow for floods to pass, and allow for the infiltration of the surrounding neighborhood’s run-off in dedicated creek-side catch basins while providing rich upland areas for human use.
