Challenge
The Downtown Streetscape Master Plan for San Jose is a comprehensive planning, policy and design handbook for a city making the transition from a commuter destination to a thriving 24-hour urban community. Developed after extensive analysis, the master plan details specific policies and guidelines for all elements of the streetscape including sidewalk and street dimensions, streetscape furniture, utility and private encroachments, and street trees. The final section of the plan provides specific design plans for streets and intersections identified as investment priorities in the downtown core. The master plan was developed in conjunction and concurrently with landscape, lighting, and signage plans. Completed while with SMWM Group (now a subset of Perkins+Will).
